Cattie Adhesive Solutions
supplies Hot Melts & Water-Based Adhesives for BOOKBINDING & GRAPHIC
ARTS in several forms for many types of adhesive applications.
Our Adhesives can be made Clear,
"Water-White" , Odorless and are formulated to provide excellent
adhesion to all types of paper and cardboard including some of the most
difficult to bond including, Foils, Films and UV coated paper.
Hot melt adhesives and water-based
adhesives are commonly used for bookbinding and graphic arts. Some common uses
include edition binding, library binding, soft-cover binding, one-shot,
two-shot, and cover binding. For the highest quality durable bookbinding the
use of curable PUR hot melts is recommended.
Our adhesives are formulated to
meet specific application requirements for color, bond strength, heat
resistance, or other performance standards. Our products are used extensively
across many industries and for many adhesive applications.
A more Recent development is the
use of Low Temperature Hot Melts which are applied at 250°F instead of 350°F.
In general, Low Temperature Hot Melts provide the same Bonding performance for
most Bookbinding Applications. They are:
Some Key technical requirements
for Bookbinding hot melt applications are:
Precise viscosity control for exact adhesive coatings
Open and setting time
Aging stability for improved clean machining
Lower application temperatures
Faster cooling for improved trimming
Fast page-pull strength development
Recyclability
In bookbinding Open Time and
Setting Time are Critical to ensure a High Quality book comes off the
manufacturing line. Tackifier resins are critical raw materials to influence
these properties. The right choice of tackifier resins is crucial for
formulating hot melts to meet specific open time and setting time requirements.
Our choice of the best tackifier
resins, help make our hot melts and water-based adhesives the best choice in
the industry for your BOOKBINDING & GRAPHIC ARTS adhesive applications.

One-Shot Perfect Binding-One-Shot
Perfect binding is used to describe the making of books, manuals, magazines,
and directories using One-Shot of adhesive to the spine. This is done at a high
production speed and requires strong, fast setting bonds to a wide variety of
paper substrate types and cover stocks.
Two-Shot Bookbinding-Two-Shot
bookbinding is used to describe two-shot soft cover and hard cover
manufacturing of books.
Our BOOKBINDING & GRAPHIC
ARTS Hot Melt Adhesives Offer the following benefits:
Aggressive Bonds - Bonds to a wide range of difficult
to Bond, Low energy substrates.
Reduced Char - No clogged lines or nozzles and no
adhesive buildup in the tank, reduced maintenance costs.
Low/No Odor - No smoke, offers a more
operator-friendly work environment.
No Stringing / Tailing - Reduces downtime. No Angel
Hairs or adhesive build-up. Reduces unscheduled maintenance.
Increased Mileage - Lowers adhesive usage and costs,
depending on application.
Reduced viscosity gain - Adhesive runs consistently
clean, allowing for precise control of bead size and bead placement.
Light in color - Improves package appearance.
Clean Machining - High performance. Reduce equipment
maintenance and unscheduled downtime.
