In the past, Solvent-containing adhesives based on polyurethane were used for laminating films; However with more recent developments in the areas of "Solvent-Free" hot melt and water-based adhesives, high-solids adhesive products based on aqueous polyurethane dispersions are becoming the best choice for most Packaging applications.
A high percentage of all Industrial Adhesive Products are used for Packaging Applications– Although normal envelopes and paper bags consist of just a single layer of material, most packaging materials used today are formed by Laminating different materials together with adhesives.
Laminated films can be manufactured from polyester (PETP, PBTP), polyamides, polyethylene, polypropylene, cellophane, paper, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene fluoride, polyimides, aluminum and some Metal Foils.
By laminating cardboard with paper, in particular high gloss paper, it is possible to put product information on the cardboard and give the product a commercially appealing appearance. Adhesives based on starch, dextrin and glutin, and also polyvinyl acetate dispersions, are used for this purpose. Important requirements on overprinted packaging materials, in particular the various types of packaging materials used for foods, are their strength, stability to heat and impermeability to moisture. These properties along with desired appearance can only be obtained by combining different materials.
For adhesive applications using High Speed, Automatic packaging machinery, it is very important that the adhesives maintain stability and the proper viscosity. Our Water-Based Dispersion Adhesives and Hot Melts are used widely for Package material Lamination Applications.
